Hartman Tutoring is dedicated to providing premium in-home and online academic tutoring and test prep services to students of NYC. No matter the subject or age level, we always have the same objective in mind: to empower students and provide them with the tools necessary for fulfilling their academic potential.

From Our Family to Yours
We are a family-owned group of educators, and we view our students as an extension of our family. Our staff members are experienced teachers and tutors, meticulously trained and completely committed to helping children not only succeed academically, but enjoy the journey, as well.
We aim to eliminate stress, maximize ability and keep parents as informed and involved as possible. We’re here to help in any way we can, from the ABCs to the SATs.
Our Story
Hartman Tutoring, owned by the mother-son duo of Alice and Jesse Hartman, was founded in 1986 in lower Manhattan. Prior to that, Alice and her husband Kenny were two of the founding teachers at The Village Community School, where the two of them taught for over two decades. When Kenny passed away in 1991, Alice decided to adjust her role as an educator from classroom teacher to tutor, allowing her to be home with her two young children. In 2004, Jesse joined his mother as partners in business, and the two set out in an effort to provide NYC’s children with the best one-on-one academic support possible.

Our Intake Process
Families begin the process by meeting with an HT Director for a consultation, either at our Manhattan office or online. This is an opportunity to answer questions and outline details of the adventure to come. The consultation is immediately followed by an assessment with the student, allowing us to make an ideal pairing amongst our esteemed staff of tutors and coaches for ongoing sessions.
